Once your Word file gets corrupted, then you cannot open it on Microsoft Word application. Really? Also the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Word.Document.8\shell keys are already set to the Office15 directory, but unfortunately that's not the fix. Meaning when you open up Word 2013, it still asks you if you want to set Word 2013 as the default for document files, even though .doc already opens with it and from program files there is no path that matches above. We have to reinstall? When I do try to correct the... All preexisting files and any attachments in email do not open with word. I downloaded the program and it worked.
I then opened Windows Explorer, went to the Folder where my WORD documents were held (documents were opening up with WORDPAD before) but when I right-clicked on a Document, selected "Open Then delete the association for .doc, .xls, and any other file types that you do not want associated to the OpenOffice.org program.
